Anya is just your typical teenager trying to figure out high school and life. How do you stay under the radar yet stand out to get your crush’s attention? Especially when he is already dating the girl who is perfect at everything. Or how do you have a ghost for a friend and not seem out of the ordinary? Especially when your new ghost friend becomes more than you bargained for.
Anya meets Emily, a seemingly very considerate ghost, when she accidentally falls down an old well. Emily has been trapped there for a hundred years. Though apathetic at first, Anya agrees to help Emily find her murderer if and when she gets rescued. Her story is really sad after all.
However, once free the two quickly get distracted from that mission while making Anya into a new woman...someone Anya’s not so sure she wants to be. Matters turn dark quite fast and Emily’s true intentions reveal themselves as very different than what she originally portrayed.
Black, white, and purple tones make up the images which are perfect for this haunted tale. Not only does it compliment the language and tone, Brosgol's illustrations also add depth to the characters by showing additional dimensions to their personal struggles and fears.
